The comprehensive event consists of works of art, sketches, drafts and numerous other archival materials from artists that came form Linz. The Valie Export Center an international research center for media art is developed in cooperation with the University of Art in Linz.

Throughout his life Alfred Kubin had a special relationship with animals. In his childhood beetles, butterflies and insects already held a mysterious charm for him. As a young artist in Munich he closely observed snakes, lizards, apes and birds and read natural history journals. Landesgalerie Linz is offering a glimpse into Alfred Kubin’s multi-faceted bestiary in the redesigned Kubin Cabinet from 15 September 2017.
For centuries lichens have been used by humans in a wide variety of ways – e.g. for dying wool, in folk medicine, for nourishment and manufacturing perfume. Today species of lichens are used as bioindicators to determine air quality. The NEXTCOMIC Festival is a festival that takes place annually since 2009 in Linz in March. It is the only such event in Austria and one of the most important German-language comic festivals. In addition to comics also visual arts, character design, architecture, film, music, design and animation are presented.
